Open files in Windows

What is the best way to work with open files (esp .pst files). When using rsync I work in "push" mode, i.e. the client (XPP) runs rsync and pushes the files to the backup server (XPP). In this case, thanks to Adi Oltean I use vshadow to create a temporary shadow copy, and then push this to the server.

Is there a good solution for Hardbackup? Can it work in push mode? Or can it pull a shadow copy from a client (this assumes one can create the shadow copy just before the pull starts). Any ideas gratefully received. Thanks

Re: Open files in Windows

Can I use the mechanism you devised at "A new FAQ addressing pre-exec and post-exec functionality is now available" to run a cmd file which calls vshadow to creat the shadow copy prior to execution and a similar one to delete the vshadow afterwards?

Thanks

Hardbackup works only in pull mode. AFAIK, vshadow is the only way to address open file issue on XP/2003. Vshadow on XP is different than 2003. It doesn't allow to make shadow copies available from a drive.

Sounds a good idea.
